Celebration of the 78th Independence Day of India in Antananarivo

The 78th Independence Day of India was celebrated on 15th August 2024 with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit by the Members of the Indian Diaspora and Friends of India in Madagascar. 

2. The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu.  This was followed by reading the address of Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu to the nation, by the Ambassador.  The celebration included cultural performances by the members Indian Diaspora and local Hindi students.

3. The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Naina Andriantsitohaina was the Chief Guest at the reception hosted by Ambassador in the afternoon of 15 August 2024.   President of the Senate, H.E. Mr. Richard Ravalomanana, Governor of Vakinankaratra Region, Mr. Vyvato Rakotovao, Quaestor of the National Assembly, Members of the Senate and National Assembly were among the prominent guests. The guests witnessed captivating performances by members of the ITEC alumni and Malagasy artists and enjoyed delectable Indian food as part of the celebrations.

4. In his speech, Ambassador reiterated India’s readiness to further  strengthen its partnership with Madagascar, in line with vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), and to share India’s developmental experience and expertise, as per the needs of Madagascar.

5. In his address, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Naina Andriantsitohaina expressed gratitude for India’s ongoing support to Madagascar in various fields and reaffirmed Madagascar’s desire to further strengthen India-Madagascar cooperation for the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries.  He called for joint efforts to enhance cooperation in the areas of agriculture, digital technology, health and renewable energy.  

6. Town Hall of Antananarivo was illuminated with the Indian national flag in the evening of 15th August 2024 to mark the celebration of India’s Independence Day.
