Celebration of the ITEC Day 2024

The Embassy of India in Antananarivo organized the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day on 23 October 2024.

2. The event was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mrs. Rasata Rafaravavitafika, President of Senate of Madagascar, H.E. Mr. Ravalomanana  Richard, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, H.E. Mrs. Dewa Viviane, Second Quester of the National Assembly, Mrs. Andrianasolo Nadine, several Members of Parliament and around 180 members of ITEC/ICCR alumni. 

3. Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mrs. Rasata Rafaravavitafika, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Government of India for the ITEC trainings and ICCR scholarships offered to Madagascar. She noted that ITEC day reflects the depth of the bond of friendship and cooperation between Madagascar and India and added that these capacity building and skill development programmes have played an instrumental role in further strengthening of India-Madagascar cooperation.

In his remarks, Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu mentioned ITEC is a vivid reflection of India’s long history of knowledge sharing, in line with the ancient Indian Philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.  He noted that more than 1000 professionals and about 200 students from Madagascar who had undergone training programs in India over the past years under ITEC and ICCR scholarships are actively contributing to the emergence of Madagascar as a thriving nation. He also invited the professionals and students of Madagascar to take advantage of various capacity building programs being sponsored by the Government of India. 

5. The event witnessed several cultural performances by ITEC alumni and of students from Yoga and Hindi classes.  Some ITEC alumni shared their experiences and highlighted how the training programs under ITEC have helped them in their professions. They thanked the Government of India for the trainings which upgraded their skills and also provided an opportunity to visit India and learn about its rich culture.  The cultural program ended with a vote of thanks by the Vice President of the ITEC Alumni Association of Madagascar, Mrs. Voahangimamy Zoelinanahary. A special Millet exhibition was also organized on the occasion.  The event concluded with the taking of Indian food in a cordial environment.
