Celebrations of the “Ayurveda Day-2024”


Embassy of India in Antananarivo organized a special event on 29 October 2024 to celebrate “Ayurveda Day-2024” under the theme 'Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health' . The event also coincided with the celebrations of Deepavali- the Indian festival of lights.

2. Vice President of the National Assembly H.E. Mr. Augustin Andriamananoro, Special Adviser at the Presidency of Madagascar, H.E. Mr. Patrick Rajoelina, Secretary General of  the Ministry of Public Works Mr. Sambisolo Emile Joseph, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industrialization and Trade Mrs. Vahinisoa Rasamoely were among the dignitaries who graced the event. It was also attended by other representatives of the Government of Madagascar as well as the  Members of the Indian Diaspora.

3. In his speech, Vice President of the National Assembly H.E. Mr. Augustin Andriamananoro noted the importance of Ayurveda for the holistic well-being of human body and called for greater synergy between Ayurveda and Traditional Malagasy Medicine for improving the health of the people of the two countries.  He also conveyed his warm greetings on the occasion of Deepavali for stronger people-to-people linkages between India and Madagascar

Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu spoke about the efforts made by the Government of India to promote awareness and research on Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine in India.  He said that in the spirit of the ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The whole world is one family), the Government of India is assisting the World Health Organization in setting up of its “Global Centre for Traditional Medicine” in Jamnagar (Gujarat). He also reaffirmed India’s readiness to share its developmental experience and expertise with Madagascar, in line with Vision SAGAR ( Security and Growth for All in the Region). 

5. Embassy’s Teacher of Indian Culture made a presentation on the history and practice of Ayurveda, especially the balancing of the 3 elemental “Dosha” (defects) of the human body.  A film on Ayurveda and an exhibition on Ayurvedic products were showcased on the occasion. This was followed by cultural performances by the Embassy’s students of Yoga and Hindi. The event concluded with the tasting of Indian food.
