Ambassador’s Remarks at the Special Yoga Session

(Antsirabe, 26 July 2024)

Governor of Vakinankaratra Region H.E. Mr. Vyvato Rakotovao,

Mayor of Antsirabe H.E. Mr. Honoré Gabriel Rasamimanana,

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Namaskar, Salama, Good Morning! It gives me a great joy to visit the beautiful city of Antsirabe and take part in today’s special Yoga session with you all. I would like to express my special gratitude to the Governor of Vakinankaratra Region and other dignitaries for their support for today’s event.

You might be aware that the ancient Indian practice of Yoga focuses on the unity of body and soul, with an emphasis on holistic wellness. It was at the initiative of Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi that the United Nations General Assembly had adopted a resolution in 2014, designating 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. I would like to thank the Government of Madagascar for supporting the celebrations of International Day of Yoga over the past ten years. I am glad to note that the people of Madagascar are benefiting from the free Yoga classes conducted every day at our Embassy in Antananarivo.

In conclusion, I would like to say that as close neighbours in the Indian Ocean region, India and Madagascar share long-standing ties of friendship and people-to-people linkages. I hope that today's special Yoga session in the beautiful city of Antsirabe will help to promote greater tourism flows between India and Vakinankaratra Region. Thank you once again for joining us in today’s special Yoga session.
