Ambassador’s Remarks at the Special Yoga Session

(Nosy Be, 18 September 2024)

His Excellency Governor of Diana Region H.E. Mr. Taciano Rakotomanga

Prefect of Nosy Be Mr. Tilahizandry Niaina Angelo

Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts,

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Namaskar, Salama, Good Afternoon! It is my privilege to visit the picturesque town of Nosy Be and to take part in today’s special Yoga Session.

“Yoga” in Sanskrit language means “to join or unite”. Thus, yoga symbolizes the unity of body and soul and presents a holistic approch to wellness. It was at the initiative of the Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi that the United Nations adopted a resolution in 2014 declaring 21 June to be celebrated as the International Day of Yoga every year. I am grateful to the Government of Madagascar for its support to the promotion of Yoga across Madagascar. I am also thankful to the Governor and other dignitaries of the Diana Region for joining today's special Yoga session.

I would like to briefly mention about the potential for tourism between India and Madagascar. India, with its rich history and culture has always been a favourite destination for international tourists. Given its high quality and affordable medical care, India is also a favored destination for medical and wellness tourism, including for the people of Madagascar. You might also be aware that India is also increasingly becoming a source for outbound tourism, with its growing population of middle class who want to explore exotic destinations abroad. I am confident that with its pristine beaches and exotic flora and fauna, Nosy Be and Diana Region of Madagascar will be able to attract more tourists from India in the coming days. Embassy of India will work closely with the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts and other authorities to enhance mutual flows of tourism between our two countries. Once again, I welcome you all to today’s special Yoga session. Thank you!
