Ambassador’s Remarks on the occasion of Ayurveda Day - 2024
(29 October 2024)

Vice President of the National Assembly H.E. Mr. Augustin Andriamananoro,

Special Adviser to the President of Madagascar H.E. Mr. Patrick Rajoelina,

Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works,

Secretary General of the Ministry of Industrialization and Trade,

Members of the Indian Diaspora,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Namaste, Salama, Good Evening. It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the celebrations of Ayurveda Day-2024, under the theme “Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health”. Today, we are also marking Deepavali, the Indian Festival of Lights, which signifies the victory of light over darkness.

2. Ayurveda, in Sanskrit language means “knowledge of life”. It is a traditional system of medicine deeply rooted in India’s cultural heritage. Ayurveda emphasizes holistic healing of the human body through the balancing of 3 elemental “Dosha” (defects). Sage Dhanvantari, who divided Ayurveda into 8 branches of treatment is called the “Father of Ayurveda” while Sushruta, Charaka and Vagbhata are known as the Triumverate of Ayurvedic knowledge in ancient India. A dedicated Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) was created under the Government of India in 2014, to promote awareness and research on Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine. In the spirit of ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The whole world is one family), the Government of India is helping the World Health Organization to set up its “Global Centre for Traditional Medicine” in Jamnagar (Gujarat) to promote global health through Ayurveda and other systems of traditional medicine.

3. Today, we are also marking the Festival of Deepavali - which in Sanskrit language means "row of lights". It is a festival celebrated by the people of India and Indian Diaspora across the world, to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. I would like to conclude by reaffirming that as a close neighbour and fellow developing country in the Indian Ocean region, India desires to see the emergence of Madagascar, as a thriving nation. India stands ready to share to its developmental experience and expertise as per the needs and requirements of Madagascar, in order to promote peace, progress and prosperity of our two countries. Once again, warm greetings to you all on the occasion of Deepavali and the Ayurveda Day. Thank you!
