India Hands Over 30 Tonnes of Humanitarian Relief to Madagascar Following Cyclones Gezani and Fytia
In a gesture of solidarity, the Charge d'Affaires of India to Madagascar Mr. Mohit Kumar, handed over 30 tonnes of essential humanitarian relief materials to Secretary General from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar Mrs. Razanadrasoa Marie Leontine and Director of Operations of BNGRC (National Bureau of Risk and Disaster Management) Commander Haja Andriahitantsoa, in Antananarivo on 10 March 2026.
2. Present along side were Chief of Staff of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Joahary Ratovondrahona and Director of Partnership for Development Promotion at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Misizara Alicia Neriky, members of the media and other dignitaries. The humanitarian assistance comprised 12 tons of essential medicines-including water purifying tablets, medicines etc and about 18 tons of relief material such as blankets, tents, water containers and dignity kits for men and women.
3. In their address, Secretary General Mrs. Razanadrasoa Marie Leontine and Director of BNGRC Commander Andriahitantsoa welcomed the humanitarian aid and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India for the timely assistance.
4. The handing over of humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of the devastating cyclones- Gezani and Fytia, underscored the strong bilateral ties between the two countries. In his speech, Charge d'Affaires expressed solidarity with the displaced families. He shared that the humanitarian gesture is aligned with Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi's vision 'MAHASAGAR', which promotes collective security and growth for all in the Indian Ocean region and commitment to Global South.
5. The event concluded with the symbolic handover of the relief materials in the presence of dignitaries.
