Handing Over of Transport Vehicles

Handing Over Ceremony of the 06 pickup vans and 06 ambulances donated by the Government of India 

 

The Charge d'Affaires of India to Madagascar (concurrently accredited to Comoros) Mr. Mohit Kumar, handed over 06 pickup vans and 06 ambulances to Chief of Staff to the Presidency in charge of Defense H.E. Mr. Youssouf Mohamed Ali, in Moroni (Comoros) on 25 March 2026.

  1. The ceremony was attended by the Secretary General to the Presidency of the Union of Comoros Mr. Abdou Achirafi Ali Bacar, Secretary General a.i. of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Abdourahamani Said Bakari, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Soibrine Assoumani Abdou, Commander of the National Gendarmerie of Comoros Lt. Colonel Djanfar Ousseni Maecha, Commander of the Comorian Coast Guard Lt. Fahmy Husny El-Nassib and Honorary Consul of India to Comoros Mr. Shemir Kamoula. 
  2. In his speech, Chief of Staff to the Presidency in charge of Defense H.E. Mr. Youssouf Mohamed Ali thanked the Government of India for the donation of the transport vehicles and emphasized that this gesture will strengthen the operational capacity of the National Development Army. It will also enhance their ability to protect the people of Comoros, thus it will ultimately help in the national development. He also highlighted the importance of India–Comoros cooperation in defense, training, security and logistics, aligning with the President Azali’s vision of making Comoros an emerging nation by 2030. He underscored the need for continued collaboration, particularly in the maritime domain and requested for the provision of naval assets to reinforce the Coast Guard’s capacity to monitor and control territorial waters.  In his speech, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Soibrine Assoumani Abdou also expressed gratitude to the Government of India for the transport vehicles.
  3. In his address, the Charge d’Affaires reaffirmed India’s commitment to share its developmental expertise with Comoros and highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation. He further mentioned that this gesture goes beyond the simple framework of a material donation and recalled that India's support is part of a partnership and not an assistance approach.  A simple reception was also hosted by Chief of Staff to the Presidency in charge of Defense.
  4. The event concluded with the symbolic handover of the transport vehicles in the presence of dignitaries. Some photos of the ceremony are also attached.
